Barn Arts to play all summer at Criterion

BAR HARBOR — The Barn Arts Collective, the arts group based in Bass Harbor, will perform “We Run the Ship,” a make-your-own adventure musical, at the newly reopened Criterion Theatre throughout the summer, beginning on Saturday, May 16, at 11a.m.
“We Run the Ship” is an interactive and immersive theater event with puppets and original music. At every performance, the audience members travel throughout the historic theater and make their own choices to decide where the show will go next.
“We are thrilled to be performing at the Criterion this summer, and this show is a perfect fit for this beautiful space,” said Barn Arts Collective co-founder Andrew Simon. “The new management at the Criterion is dedicated to creating a space for the community, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than featuring local artists performing for young people.”
The show, which is geared towards young audiences and was created by Simon and Brittany Parker, premiered in New York City in March of 2014. It played several performances across Mount Desert Island last summer before a run at the Portland Fringe Festival.
Performances are every Saturday at 11 a.m., starting May 16 and every Thursday at 11 a.m., starting June 25. Tickets are $5 for children and $8 for adults.
The Barn Arts Collective is a local arts group that produces and presents shows at The Barn, their waterfront performance space, and partners with local organizations to incorporate the study and practice of the performing arts throughout the community.
