Is there anything better than a cold glass of locally brewed artisanal beer after climbing off a boat or down a mountain?
Strong Brewing Co. in Sedgwick, located at the junction of Mines (Route 15) and Rope Ferry roads, offers just that in a relaxed, family-friendly, outdoor setting.
Brewers Al and Mia Strong produce Localmotive, Soulpatch Porter and The Maineiac as well as special edition beers.
This summer, the Strongs have added food prepared by local chefs on Friday nights in August.
“You go to the farmers market and there’s always these great people doing food,” said Mia Strong.
“It was more about giving locals and the tourists another option on a Friday night,” she continued. “It’s really casual with the picnic tables.”

Soulpatch Porter, a robust porter with roasted malt and chocolate notes; Localmotive, a California-style beer; and The Maineiac, a double India pale ale, are among the microbrews to choose from.
Inside the brewery’s small tap room, there are a few tables, but most of the seating is outdoors, where you might see the Strong family’s chickens or ducks ambling by.
On Aug. 5 and 26, Harborside chef Mia Kanazawa of Mia’s Spring Rolls and Sesame Noodles will serve noodles, spring rolls and salads.
Strong said Kanazawa does a good business at local farmers markets, but serving an evening meal is a plus.
“Being able to cook for people and serve it warm,” was a draw for her, Strong said. “She doesn’t get to see people enjoy it,” when they buy it at the market to take home for later.
On Aug. 12, Jill Smith, who runs the neighboring Millbrook Co., will serve up oysters and charcuterie.
Smith’s charcuterie boards were a big hit in July, Strong said, adding, “She really thought about what’s not being served around here.”
Barbecue is on the grill as well.
The Blazin’ Nation Food Truck will roll into the brewery Aug. 19 to serve wood-fired barbecue.
The brewery will feature live music by Suitcase Junket on Thursday, Aug. 25, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
The brewery has expanded its parking lot this season and can now accommodate 40 vehicles.
Strong Brewing is located at 7 Rope Ferry Road in Sedgwick. Hours are 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more info, call 359-8722 and visit www.strongbrewing.com.
